How to Recover From Root Canal Treatment

Franklin September 28, 2021 3 min read

In most cases, root canal treatment is successful. Ninety to ninety five percent of people can expect a fully functional tooth after treatment. If you follow proper dental hygiene, avoid sugar and have regular checkups, your treated tooth should last for many years. No therapy can last as long as a healthy tooth. Here are some tips to help you recover from root canal treatment. You should continue brushing and flossing at least once a day after the procedure.

The tooth’s center is called the pulp and it’s made up of connective tissue, nerves, and blood vessels. This soft tissue is vital for the healthy growth of a tooth, and if the pulp is inflamed or injured, it can lead to tooth loss. Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, involves replacing the tooth’s pulp. It usually requires one to three visits to complete the process, and your tooth should last for many years.

During a root canal treatment, an access hole is drilled into the tooth. The pulp is removed and the tooth’s interior is cleaned using root canal files of increasing diameter. The root canal files are manipulated down the entire length of the tooth, scrubbing the insides and sides of the root canals. The tooth is then sealed and a crown is placed over the surface to restore functionality. The process typically lasts about an hour.

If an infection has caused the infection, a root canal treatment is necessary to remove the affected pulp. Deep decay, repeated dental procedures, and large fillings are all factors that can lead to an infection in the pulp chamber. The treatment will also reduce the risk of an abscess, which can cause tooth loss. The success rate of root canal treatments is high, and most patients don’t need to undergo follow-up treatments. After the procedure, your restored teeth can last a lifetime.

While there are many possible causes of tooth pain, root canal treatment may be recommended if the pain is severe or persistent. Symptoms may vary from mild to severe, and they can be felt throughout the day, or while chewing or biting. Some patients experience prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold food, and gums may become puffy and swollen. In some cases, root canal therapy will eliminate the infection without requiring surgery.

Although root canal treatment can be painful, it has few long-term side effects and generally goes away within a few days. However, it may be necessary for a tooth extraction to prevent an abscess. The cost of a root canal procedure varies greatly. The location of the tooth, the difficulty of the procedure, and the dental professional performing it will determine how much it will cost. If you have an abscess, your dentist may recommend extraction of the tooth.

A root canal treatment is a simple procedure that involves removing the injured or dead pulp from a tooth’s root. It preserves the tooth’s structure by removing the infection and saving the tooth’s crown. Pain in the mouth and swelling of the gums are common signs of an infected tooth. Your dentist can perform a root canal treatment on a tooth by itself in a single or two appointments. Most people can complete the procedure without a significant amount of discomfort and can even go back to work in a few weeks.
